Argument Mining

Argument Mining is a relatively new research area at the intersection of Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning in AI. It involves the automatic detection in text of arguments, argument components, and relations between arguments and their components.

We develop novel classification methodologies incorporating reasoning through computational argumentation with corpus-based computational linguistics to address a variety of problems, including deception detection, fact checking and fake news detection. Our work focuses on the automatic extraction of relations between arguments in text using machine learning approaches (referred to as relation-based Argument Mining); we have also contributed a corpus for this task.
